Al Qaeda Kidnapping Survivor Yolande Korkie (10 Mar 2016)
Al Qaeda Kidnapping Survivor Yolande Korkie
In the late 2000's the Korkie family felt it in their heart to move Yemen to work with the poor, where Yolande home-schooled their two teenagers and volunteered at a hospital, while dad Pierre taught English in Yemen. In 2013 they made international headlines, when they were captured by al-Qaeda militants, where they were separated from each other and suffered physical and mental torture.
Although Yolande and her children were released with the help of Gift from the Givers, her husband was later tragically killed before his release in a failed US rescue mission. The USA was unaware that he was set to be release the next day.
We had the honour of having Yolande in studio with us to talk to about her book '558 Days', that recounts their incredible ordeal.
