Black flapjacks with berries and chocolate sauce

Black flapjacks with berries & chocolate sauce

Recipe by Tsakane Baloyi


1 Cup All purpose flour
2 Tbsp Sugar
2 tsp Baking powder
Pinch of salt
1 Cup Milk
2 Tbsp Melted butter or vegetable oil
1 Large egg
1 Tbsp Activated charcoal


Topping (optional):
Chocolate sauce
Black berries and/or blueberries 
Black whipped cream 


Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt, set aside.
In a medium bowl whisk together milk, butter (or vegetable oil) and egg.
Pour the dry ingredients to the milk mixture and stir. (do not over mix)
Mix in a tablespoon of activated charcoal, until well mixed.
For each flapjack spoon out 2 or 3 tablespoons of batter onto a skillet. Cook until the surface of the flapjack has bubbled, about 1 minute. Flip over with a spatula and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
Stack the flapjacks and garnish with whipped cream, berries and chocolate sauce.
