Today, gamers around the world celebrate the launch of Broforce!
Created by Cape Town based independent game design studio Free Lives, Broforce has taken the world by storm, as gamers and reviewers alike rave about its digital awesomeness.
Broforce is an action platformer for PC about 80’s and 90’s action heroes making up the Broforce team - an under-funded vigilante paramilitary organization.
The game features pixel art graphics and a fully destructible Vietnam setting. While masquerading as a run ‘n gun in the vein of Metal Slug, Broforce’s reactive environment encourages tactical play.
Each bro out of the 13 that the game currently features has distinctive overpowered attacks and special abilities, and mastering them all is one of Broforce’s core pleasures. Death is instant and can be surprising, but this is balanced by the incompetence of the enemy. Explosions are plentiful and very often result in chaotic chain reactions, but this shouldn’t discourage you from permanently holding down your trigger finger.
Broforce is best played co-operatively, with two to four players (though single player is an option). It can be played both on keyboard and on XBox controllers.
Bombastic 16-bit platforming shooter Broforce will finally emerge out of Early Access for an official launch on 15th October for PC, Mac and Linux.
A PS4 version is due next early next year, developer Free Lives confirmed.
Broforce is a send-up of the finest action films of the 80s with Die Hard, Predator, Commando, Lethal Weapon and more adapted into a a cartoonish 16-bit platformer with comically destructible environments. It's even had a free Aliens-based update and an official The Expendables spin-off game.
