Bernelle Vester's Dry Toilet

DIY Dry Toilet

With the Western Cape in the grips of the worst drought in a decade, this engineer looked for new solutions.

Bernelle Vester is a Bioprocess Engineer in Cape Town. She created her own dry toilet for her home to try and save water. Watch how she did this below!

A flush toilet can use up to 9 litres of water everytime you flush. When you consider a family of four in a household, that's a lot of water that you're flushing down each month!

Level 6B water restrictions are still in place in Cape Town, which requires users to limit their consumption to 50 litres a day.

You can keep track of the city's water usage here and find out how you can reduce your consumption.
