Our favourite DIY expert Zoe is back at it again and she has the perfect DIY Christmas gift for you! Keep those Christmas expenses low by doing it yourself this year. Friends and family members will love it, and so will your wallet.
This string art idea is cost-effective, offers endless options and is pretty simple to accomplish.
You will need:
Piece of wood (I bought a 600mm by 400mm piece from Builders that they cut to size)
Map of country
Small nails (I used 3/4 inch nails)
Paintbrush/ foam brush
Local is lekker, so we used a map of Africa as our outline. First we sanded our piece of wood
to ensure all surfaces are smooth. You can then stain or paint the wood to the colour of your preference.
Search the internet for an image of your liking and print it out to size. Place the image in the position you would and begin following the outline of your image all the way around by nailing in your nails.
Tip: You don’t need to nail the nails in too deep. They just need to sit firmly in the wood.
Once you have have connected the dots using your nails, you can tear off the image and get rid of it. You should be left with a clear outline.
Using your thread, tie a double knot around one nail. Begin threading each nail in between the outline of the image and continue until the entire area is covered.
Tip: We wrapped the thread around each nail about 8 - 10 times but you can do as many as you would like.
This is such a cool Christmas gift, and it's easy to personalise to make sure your friends will love it as much as you do. Happy DIYing!
