Dog Running for Mayor
A fourth candidate has entered the mayoral race in Schenectady, New York, who’s platform includes lowering the city’s property taxes, reducing crime and breaking down community barriers.
She also likes bacon, and her hobbies include walking around downtown. Her name is Diamond, and she’s a dog.
Diamond isn’t the first pet to be part of a mayoral campaign in Schenectady, and even though animals can’t really run for elected office, her campaign add a bit of humour to the local politics.
Her political campaign follows canine politician Loffredo, who ran in 1999, as well as cats Sparky and Roger, who ran in 2007 and 2011.
Diamond is running as a write-in candidate for mayor and, according to her campaign manager Kathy Fitzmaurice, feels it’s important to work with everybody to implement change in the city.
Their hope is that having Diamond run for mayor would bring attention to improvements that need to be made at the city’s animal shelter.
Who knows, you might see Bob running for Mayor of Cape Town sometime soon!
