On public holiday Wednesday 24 September - the Castle of Good Hope is hosting a FREE day out from 9.30am. A convoy of approximately 100 Veteran/Vintage/Classic vehicles will depart from Rondebosch Common at 10am, they will travel along Main Road to the Castle. The vehicles in the photos are: 1935 Daimler 15 Sports Saloon 2L 6 cylinderand a 1954 AJS motorbike. They will be displayed at the Castle until approximately 2pm. In addition there will be live music (Jess Meyer, Wild Lettuce, Isongo and Crimson House- photo of Riaan and Nick from Crimson House attached), car themed film screenings, food vendors and a few Vintage/antique market stalls.
The Castle of Good Hope is staging a series of events focusing on the Castle as a place for reflection, healing and nation building. There is no doubt that the Castle is predominantly seen as a bastion of colonialism and it is this perception which needs to be changed by including all communities and people of South Africa.
Heritage Day will be celebrated at the Castle on September 24. An exciting part of this day is the Heritage Day Veteran Drive which will showcase veteran, vintage, classic cars and motorbikes. The Castle of Good Hope under the dynamic leadership of CEO, Calvyn Gilfellan is committed to making the space accessible to all people of South Africa while also developing it into a world class tourism and heritage site. The Castle is looking forward to making this display of these beautiful cars open to people from all races, religions and all walks of life.
Access to the Castle on Heritage Day is FREE as are the tours of the Castle on the day. People are encouraged to come and enjoy Heritage Day at the Castle on 24 September 2014. Fb: Heritage Day Veteran Drive.
