20 March is the International Day of Happiness, this day is acknowledged world wide. It was initiated in 2012 by the UN. United Nations advisor Jayme Illien had advocated that the UN recognise the pursuit of happiness as a human right and a vital human goal, it was supported by all 193 member states.
The first International Day of Happiness however was in 2013, it was launched by Nelson Mandela’s grandson Ndaba Mandela and, Bill and Hillary Clinton’s daughter, Chelsea Clinton, at the TedXTeen conference centre in New York.
On the second celebration of the day in 2014, Pharrell Williams and the United Nations Foundation teamed up to work on the world’s first 24 hour music video, which was for the song ‘Happy.’ The song had people from all over the world dancing and sing along to it. Now we know why it was such a hit.
