On 8 March, we honour the strength, beauty and achievements of women throughout the world.
German socialist Luise Zietz proposed the idea of an International Women's Day. On 18 March 1911, the first ever International Women’s Day kicked off with over a million people marching throughout Europe for women to have the right to vote. It was only until 1914 that it was held on 8 March, mainly because it was a Sunday and now it is always celebrated on that day.
Last year’s theme was a call for unbiased, gender balanced leadership. This year’s world wide theme is having a more gender inclusive working world. Are you helping to support this cause on this day or in general and if not how can you change that?
Self worth is something every young woman should have instilled and they should never allow themselves to be deterred in life due to gender discrimination, which is what International Women’s Day is about!
