MMA 16: And the winners are…

The smoke is still settling down from the fire that was the Metro Fm Awards took place this weekend, as the awards were filled with glamour and prestige.

The awards took place in Durban, Kwa-Zulu Natal place at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Convention Centre on Saturday February 25.  The awards were filled with a lot of high fashion and what some on twitter saw as controversy, as the night was packed with industry heavyweights and those who wanted to be seen, With Ntando Duma, Khanyi Mbau and of course Bonang Matheba as the show stealers on the Black Carpet.

One of the biggest winners of the night was Nasty C picking up 4 awards for Song of the year, Best Hip Hop Album, Best Male Album and Best New Artist. The person who seemed to have stolen the show however and had many talking afterwards was fellow Mabala Noise label mate Ricky Rick, who in his acceptance speech for the Best Hit Single basically slammed award shows and radio stations, which was perhaps not the best thing to do at a radio award show, which proved evident after he claimed that his mic got cut off.

The night seemed to be a battle between Mabala Noise artists and Ambitiouz Entertainment artists, as both labels took home many of the awards.  The night was full of amazing performances from the Family Tree label performing Ragga Ragga to L’vovo, Vee Mampeezy performing I Do and Nasty C opening the show with the song that would later win him Song of The Year. Whether you agreed with the winners or not, the Awards were certainly a spectacle to see and Expresso had Thenji Stemela to cover the whole show.
