My Money Story – Radio Presenter Africa Melane (16 Mar 2017)
#MyMoneyStory – Radio Presenter Africa Melane
With more than 10 years in radio broadcasting, Africa Melane, is one of the most recognisable and respected voices on South African airwaves. Every Saturday and Sunday morning he wakes up the Mother City with his weekend breakfast show on Cape Talk but his career started far from the media industry. As an accountant by training, Africa has learned his fair share of lessons when it comes to financial management and Expresso sat him down to learn more about his relationship with money.
We manage to catch Africa after the show for a few more questions:
What’s the oldest thing you own that you bought with your own money? It would have to be a set of pots and pans that I still use. When I’m not on radio I love to cook.
You have guests coming for dinner and barely any time to prepare. What is your go-to dish? I would choose a gamey fish poached in coconut milk, served with basmati rice and blanched broccoli. What’s the dumbest thing you’ve ever spent a lot of money on? 8 years ago in Sydney I spent R3000 one meal, without drinks, which was absolutely ridiculous now that I think back on it. However, I will admit, it was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. The dessert contained 18 different textures of chocolate.
If you had unlimited funds, what car would you buy right now? Deep blue 1966 Jaguar XJ
