Audi A1 Review

Well the Audi/VW group continues their world domination corporate ethos with the launch of the A1 a few months ago.  VW seem to have no qualms about getting you to buy another car, as long as it's one of theirs.

So I guess if you just can't bare the thought of joining, or remaining with, the hordes of Polo drivers out there puttering their way to Varsity or wherever, then the A1 is here to kick you into the kind style sphere usually reserved for architects

It certainly says something about you, but I'm not sure what. I can only talk from personal experience and while I was driving it it's everything an Audi should be, but when you get out you just think "wow that's really small".

Strangely the idea of a small Audi feels strange today but the company's history is full of them.  Audi's resurgence owes a lot to the A3, the first Audi since the original Quattro that was acceptable for youngsters to drive. You just didn't need to be a Brewing magnate's playboy heir.

Sales fell after a series of recalls from 1982–1987 of Audi 5000 models[23] associated with reported incidents of sudden unintended acceleration linked to six deaths and 700 accidents.[23] At the time, NHTSA was investigating 50 car models from 20 manufacturers for sudden surges of power.[24]

The polo for people who can actually afford to play polo. Or wear polo necks.

Merc Vito

We used to have a kombi and my dad cursed its unreliability. It wasn’t because it was a VW. These cars used to be problematic because the engine was at the back and couldn’t be cooled properly. As tech progressed, engines moved up front, and as diesel tech was refined, diesel just made more sense. So now you can have a huge, comfortable, fuel efficient bus, that works just as well for tour guides as it does for soccer moms.

Tour guide dream

If I was super wealthy I’d just have one for me and my mates.

Can fit an entire 8 seater dining room suite inside – I did it.

Love the double sliding doors

Can’t believe it’s a 1.6 diesel, there is so much power and fuel economy is superb. After a week of solid driving we have more than half a tank left.

Smooth, comfortable on the road. Love the armrests.

Really in this class you have this or the VW Kombi to choose from.
