Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, musical will be hitting the stages of South Africa from 26 March 2017 until the 18 June. It will first be premiering in Cape Town at the Artscape from 26 March – 23 April, then it will head to Montecasino in Jo’burg from 29 April until 18 June.
The musical is presented by Showtime Management in association with Lunchbox Theatrical Productions and Nullarbor Productions, and featuring an all South African cast. It is based on the Oscar-winning film, it originally premiered in 2006 in Australia and after two years it went to London’s West End theatre and then Broadway in New York. Throughout it’s run, the show collected many awards across the globe, including Oliver and Tony awards.
The musical is tale about three drag artist friends, who travel on an old bus ‘Priscilla’ going to a performance, they however end up on an adventureof a life time, while travelling through the countryside, searching for love and friendship. The productions includes over 500 costumes, 200 extraordinary headdresses, 23 tons of scenery, and a 10 metre long customised bus. The 28 member cast will be working with Simon Phillips, the original Priscilla director, as well as Andrew Hallsworth, who choreographed the original.
