South Africa’s darts champion, Devon ‘the Spartan’ Petersen joined us in the studio. He made his professional debut in 2010, and is ranked number 1 in South Africa, the 50th in the world and is known for his signature dance moves on stage before his matches. He is also Africa’s only professionally ranked player. He is a financial planner by day and the Spartan by night.
In 2012 ruptured a tendon in his throwing arm causing him to have to be sidelined from a tournament, the injury was so bad that it put his whole career in jeopardy. The injury resulted in Devon having to go through nine months of intensive treatment.
He had previously lead South Africa to the quarter finals of the 2014 World Cup of Darts, however they were beaten by England. He has said To rub shoulders with the best in the business, compete against them and beat some of them is all I have wanted.”
If you’re in Cape Town, you can watch him at his best, live this weekend at the Last Man Standing Darts Tournament, where he will be competing against two hundred of the country’s best players.
