If the public holiday turned your week upside-down and you are only realising now that it is the start to the weekend, don’t worry - we have your guide to a great weekend right here! Our man with the inside scoop this week is 5fm’s Rob Forbes.
Ice Age Exhibition – Sandton ICC
This 3 000 m² exhibition was designed to be respectful of scientific research while also celebrating the delightful, entertaining side of natural evolution. It includes 45 moving, life-size animals distributed among 12 scenes, as well as 11 animals in an interactive play area.
The exhibition’s main objective is for visitors to enjoy and share a unique experience - one that’s more exciting and moving than visiting a museum, as the breath-taking landscapes and scenarios recreate prehistoric life, showing biotypes such as tundra, forest and glaciers and placing each species in their natural environment.
Shakespeare Schools Festival – Artscape Opera House
The Shakespeare Schools Festival hails from the United Kingdom as an additional education program aimed at improving language and social skills through the performing arts. SSF Southern Africa is Edu Cape`s flagship project, piloted in 2010 by Kseniya Filinova-Bruton with the objective of revealing the link between the arts and education. Each year the festival encourages schools to perform abridged "30 min" versions of Shakespearean plays in local professional theatres. The festival is non-competitive, providing a platform of equal opportunity where there are no boundaries to participation.
Trevor Noah’s Lost In Translation – Teatro At Montecasino
Our very own international funny man Trevor Noah puts on his lost in translation show at Monte Casino for 2 weeks.
Smart, slick and, most importantly, funny - Trevor Noah is South Africa’s favourite comedian and rapidly becoming a household name in both the UK and USA.
His very impressive international schedule means that Lost In Translation is his first new one-man show since the sold-out It’s My Culture season in 2013. Since that tour, Trevor has toured and sold -out in cities all across the globe - from Auckland, New Zealand to Chicago, USA. Africa’s best comedian returns to Africa’s best theatre, The Teatro at Montecasino, in May and June 2015.
An entertaining evening of music, performed by the youth of KZN, featuring massed choirs, a massed orchestra and top soloists from schools in the garden province. The programme includes selections from films, musicals, operas and light classical pieces, ranging from tranquil serenades to upbeat show-stoppers. This inaugural event is set to become an annual highlight on the Schools` Arts Calendar and is made possible by the generosity of The Wealth Corporation. Proceeds will go towards the upliftment and upgrade of music facilities at the LIV! Village
