Woolworths Fill The Bag Campaign

Although we all find ourselves frustrated with Lockdown, it’s often easy to forget about how severe the impact has been on those less fortunate. It’s World Hunger Day today and Woolworths, with the help of the Gift of Givers, have launched the ‘Fill a bag’ campaign, where families in need, are being supplied with a food bag that will last up to 2 weeks.

Ever since the COVID-19 lockdown started, we have seen an increase in the number of families that are desperate for food within our communities. Woolworths has been taking a stand against hunger for many years through various initiatives all over South Africa, partnering with different organisations to reach communities. For this pandemic, they saw the need to partner with Gift of the Givers. They believe that caring is about taking action, in trying and help communities in need, and have launched an initiative to make it easy for our customers to Give Back. This is what “fill a bag” is about. They have worked with our in-house dietician to put together a bag of balanced essentials that include hygiene items.

We're filling family-sized bags with balanced nutritious food essentials. Each bag contains potatoes, onions, butternut, sweet potatoes, soft citrus, sugar, milk, tea bags, rice, maize meal, baked beans, brown lentils, soup mix, peanut butter, tuna, cake wheat flour, canola oil which will feed a family of 5 for 2 weeks. It also includes cleaning and sanitary essentials.

These bags are being donated to communities in need, with a special focus on families in isolation and quarantine who aren’t able to get to the stores. Woolworths is working in partnership with Gift of the Givers as they have a country wide network and they are at the heart of those that are affected. And specifically for World Hunger Day today, together with Gift of Givers will be handing over 1,000 care packs to communities in need in King Williams Town – Eastern Cape.

How you can donate:

It’s as easy as just scanning the SnapScan code via the SnapScan app and most banking apps, and donating any amount that you can. It costs R620 to fill a bag and a bag provides 210 meals, which means a R10 donation could go a long way to feed one person for a day.

You can also donate via EFT or if you’re a Discovery member, they’ve made it really easy to donate, you can log on to your Discovery app and use your Discovery miles to donate. Even as little as 100 miles enables a donation towards filling a bag.

EFT OR SCAN TO DONATE
Contribute any amount that you want to donate by EFT or by scanning the QR code with Snapscan, FNB & RMB Scan to Pay, or with your compatible Absa, Standard Bank, Nedbank, Capitec or MasterPass app.
